Allergies and the Common Cold: Knowing the Difference

With the trees and flowers in full bloom, many people suffer from hay fever with symptoms ranging from runny, stuffy and itchy noses, to sneezing, coughing and headaches. Sometimes it can be hard to distinguish between allergies and the common cold, but CBS News offers some insight on the topic. Allergies are typically accompanied by itchy, scratchy throats and more itchy noses than the common cold. Additionally, the common cold is usually signified by yellowish nasal discharge while clear discharge is more typical of allergies. Easing allergy symptoms is not too difficult: changing air conditioner filters monthly, washing hands after being outdoors, and taking a daily allergy medicine are just a few ways of making this allergy season as bearable as possible.
