A New Way for Doctors to Consult With Colleagues

According to CBS News, a phone app for doctors is making it easier for them to seek opinions from other experts in their field regarding how to treat tricky cases. With over 150,000 users, Figure 1, allows doctors, nurses and other health care professionals to share images of patients for educational purposes and get feedback from other clinicians, all while staying within the confines of HIPAA laws. One doctor recalls a specific case where he was unsure whether he could salvage a patient’s ankle or would be forced to amputate. Thanks to Figure 1, he quickly got feedback from foot and ankle specialists and orthopedists and was able to perform a successful surgery and save the limb.
