Tom: There are three steps every doctor
should take when prescribing antibiotics.
First, order recommended cultures before
antibiotics are given, and start drugs promptly.
Second, make sure that the indication, dose
and expected duration are specified in the patient record.
And third, reassess within 48 hours
based on test results and patient status.
Adjust or stop the prescription if necessary.
