The conference was created in 1980 with the belief that physicians are uniquely qualified to provide health care and medical news and information to the public via mass media. The conference was designed to help interested physicians build the skills necessary to be effective broadcast journalists, program hosts, news sources or spokespersons. It has since grown to include other members of the health care provider team as well as other professional communicators and information disseminators.
