260 people die each day from dirty hands and dirty instruments! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, and the health care industry's own monitoring agencies, such as The Joint Commision in Chicago, report an alarming increase in the number of patients who die from infections acquired while in the care of health care providers. Reports show that Health Care-associated infections or HAI result in more than 90,000 deaths per year. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement has recommended specific best practices to help healthcare facilities improve or eliminate these HAI. This episode of Mission Critical looks at different types of infections.
